Unbelievably its almost 12 months since we laid down our trowels, packed up our finds and patted the last turf back into place on our dig at the West Kennet Avenue Occupation Site. But if you’re getting archaeology withdrawal symptoms help is at hand- the Between the Monuments team will be back in action from 21 July to 8 August.
We’re going to be returning to the site we started digging last year. This year we’re going to be picking up where we left off in Trench 2 and opening up a number of other trenches to explore the area just to the north and east of last year’s excavations.

We’re returning to investigate the West Kennet Avenue occupation site first found by Alexander Keiller 80 years ago
If you’d like to take a look for yourself our fantastic volunteer guides will be leading regular tours of the dig from Wednesday 23 onwards, every day except Friday. No need to book, just pop along to the Barn Gallery of the Museum in Avebury Farmyard.
You can also take a look at what we found on last year’s dig.
I will be popping along I think. Fantastic to see this area is being explored.
